About
Born in Toronto in 1953. Attended the University of Toronto: B.A. (1977), B.Ed., (1978). Relocated to Saskatchewan in 1978, after accepting a high school teaching position (art and music). Began working in watercolour in 1980, and started painting professionally in 1985 after being profoundly affected by works by Francis Towne, Thomas Girtin, John Sell Cotman, and Richard Parkes Bonington, seen at an exhibition of British landscape watercolours (1600 -1860) at the British Museum. Switched from watercolour to acrylic in 1992. Likes truncated sentences.
A life lived close to nature and often in raw wilderness —having spent more than 3 years out on the land—provides a distinctive visual experience which informs and frequently imposes a choice of subjects. Wilderness canoe tripper (1969–present), wilderness canoe tripping guide and instructor, (1990-present), mountaineer, skier. Active working musician (jazz and contemporary), 1982 - present.
